On January 17, the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Iran Friendship Group Vahram Baghdasaryan and the members of the Group met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Seyed Kazem Sadjadi.

In the course of the meeting issues on the expansion of the Armenian-Iranian cooperation, particularly in the spheres of economy, energy, tourism and security were discussed.

Vahram Baghdasaryan highlighted the effective activities and mutual visits of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups. He has noted that today the Armenian-Iranian relations are at high level, and new opportunities are created for their further development.

Touching upon the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh problem, Mr Baghdasaryan has underlined that Armenia highly assesses the balanced position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this issue.

Seyed Kazem Sadjadi has underlined that the bilateral relations are of stable, long-term and strategic character. In the NK problem settlement issue the Ambassador has reaffirmed that Iran is an advocate for the preservation of peace and stability.

The sides touched upon the details of the visit of Armenia-Iran Friendship to Iran at the end of the previous year and expressed readiness of calling into life the agreements reached there. Both sides discussed issues concerning the effective use of the opportunities given by Meghri free economic zone, the organization of the gas purchase process from Iran to Armenia, and the work of the Armenian-Iranian Inter-Governmental Committee. Positively assessing the level of the political relations of the two countries, the interlocutors have underscored that the possibilities existing in the trade-economic sphere are not fully used, and there is a necessity of developing them.
